Social Committee Update
Thank you to Lori and David Tomkewitz for hosting our first neighborhood Halloween bash. It looked like everyone had an INCREDIBLE time! The kid’s costumes were AWESOME. What a special surprise to receive hand painted candleholders and pumpkins, from Sheryl Nelson, to commemorate the party! Thank you also to Colleen Douglas and Nancy Townsend for shopping for the party. A special thank you to the Tomkewitz Family, Mary Jenkins, Sheryl Nelson, Bill Spears, and Jeff Hancock for setting up and clean up the party.
Our next
Bunko game of the season will be Wednesday, Nov. 13th. It will be
held at Nancy Lowrance’s house at 418 Texas Point at 7 pm. So please call
Nancy Lowrance at 497-8273 to reserve a spot. Our calendar for the rest of 2002
will be varied due to the number of conflicts with Bush football games, holidays
and other commitments. Once again, we all contribute $5 for the prize money.
On Friday, December 13th, we will be having a holiday progressive dinner for our residents. Georg'a Walsh, of Walder Trail, and Colleen Douglas, of Texas Point, will co-chair this event. The participants travel to different homes for cocktails and appetizers, salads, main course and dessert. Houses and cooks to assist the hosts and hostesses are needed. If you are interested, please contact Georg'a Walsh at 497-2706 or Colleen Douglas at 497-2031.

Landscape Committee Hard at Work
Have you noticed how nice the flower beds in the medians and common areas look lately? Thank a landscape committee member! Committee members have been out re-mulching and cleaning up the beds.

Committee Chairperson Dan Smith enlists the aid of wife Kristen to spread mulch in the center islands!
Landscape Committee Update: We met with Lawns by Richard and pointed out the need to clean up the common area and weed some of the beds. Lawns By Richard will also be trimming the sucker out of the oak trees up to eight feet and trim the bushes in the common area, and has begun a fire ant treatment program. We are considering a course of action for removing the large, bulky mulch from the islands on Walder Trail and adding higher grade mulch to those islands. We are discussing sod for parts of those islands and flowering plants in the bed, initially using annuals with a future look at perennials. We will begin to do some work at the entrance to improve the appearance there before the spring. In the center, we discussed clearing rocks from the center island and building flower beds - some which will be annuals, others perennials. We will plant the east beds behind the sidewalk with perennials using elephant ears, ferns and other tropical look plants. We will move some of the plants in the second island inside the gate to the west side of the front entrance and add to them to build a spring flower show. We will add spring flowers and later add summer and fall plants to the center and west beds, also. We’ll add soil and mulch to the center island and both sides as needed but all beds will be loosened and turned to enhance the weed prevention of the mulch. We will be looking for help doing this work as we further develop the plan and will advise everyone of the planned work in a future newsletter so get your work gloves ready!

Dewayne and Sheryl (out of picture) Nelson were hard at work replacing the mulch in the Texas Point cul-de-sacs!
