Congratulations to the

Ennis Family of Texas Point

for the "Halloweeniest" Yard of the Month!

The Overlook Progressive Christmas Dinner will be held Saturday December 20. We are seeking host/hostess homes to serve one of the courses. Our goal is to have two houses from each street host the event. If you haven't hosted in the past, please consider doing so this year. Hosting entails supplying your home for approximately one hour, and serving utensils, (which the dinner committee can help round up enough) as everyone will be bringing food and drinks. If you are considering being a host, please let any of the committee members know by Saturday, November 8th.

It is sure to be an evening full of great food, great conversation, and a loads of fun! Don't miss it!

The Progressive Dinner Committee: Leslie Blasingame, Doris Cronin, Lisa Moore, and Pat Halberg.

Bond Issue Up for Vote

November 4th marks the second attempt of the NEISD to raise much-needed funds to improve area schools. The $449 million package includes multiple factors to help ease the growing pains of our school district (1,600 students each year):

Build four new elementary schools, three of which will be north of 1604, as well as replace portable buildings with permanent builsdings at four elementary schools south of 1604.

Build two new middle schools and one new high school.

Renovate portions of Churchill, Lee and Madison high schools, as well as provide a more extensive renovation of Roosevelt High School.

Provide greater safety for students at four elementary schools so students will no longer have to use portable buildings and outdoor restroom facilities.

Without the new schools, the district's school boundaries will have to be re-drawn every two to three years. This bond proposal will allow school boundaries to be set in place, so students will know from one year to the next which schools they will be attending. If the bond is not approved, the Facility Committee has recommended that the following be implemented: For elementary schools, a multi-track calendar would be instituted; for middle schools, capping and busing, boundary changes, and a multi-track calendar would be implemented; at the high school level, bouncary changes would address the growth.

During 2004-2006, the peak years for bond repayment, the average taxpayer will pay no more than $11.44 additinoal per month to provide the facilities included in the 2003 bond proposal.
